Menswear
Men still had to dress appropriately and keep a large wardrobe at this time. However clothing did slowly but surely become less formal and many men wore their lounge suits more often.
The tailoring in Britain was considered to be the best in the world and famous and rich people flocked to long estalished tailors in London's Savile Row and Bond Street.
1914 saw the decline of men wearing top hats and they were only brought out for special occasions because they were considered too formal nowadays. We know that women had tea drsses for their comfy wear and men also had the equivalent to a tea dress, this was called a smoking jacket and it was used for just what it says on the tin. Men used to wear them to smoke in. These were made of soft velvet and allowed the wearer to relax. they were usually embellished and frogged.
